My Journey

I am Seb Norman, Founder of The Human, and a leader in public policy and program development. My background spans engineering, management consulting, tech entrepreneurship, and public service leadership.
Throughout my career I have raised funds for international development organisations, participated in make-a-thons volunteered on non-profit boards, and facilitated network events with international delegations.
Now, defragmenting the for-purpose sector is my passion and purpose.
Current Exploratory Phase
I am currently conducting independent exploratory research to build a cross-border evidence base. This foundational work will inform my formal PhD proposal in early 2027, ensuring the research is strictly grounded in the real-world needs of mission-driven people.
Practical Experience in Systems Change
I am a practitioner as well as a researcher. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I led the Victorian Government Sick Pay Guarantee pilot, a $247 million state-funded initiative that tested portable sick pay for casual and gig workers. Managing this program, which reached over 125,000 workers and processed over one million claims, taught me first-hand about how governments can absorb risk, navigate capital allocation, and establish system conditions for required for positive change.
Outside of my research project, I am currently learning German, and open to volunteering opportunities based in Berlin. I also occasionally provide advisory, coaching, and facilitation services to help mission-driven leaders and organisations deliver public value.
