Enabling global art engagement
The Brief
As the gap between audiences and art grows, a group of like minded leaders from world-class art museums believed their survival was dependent on remaining relevant and connected to the communities they serve. The International Audience Engagement (IEA) Network needed facilitation expertise to build concensus amungst its diverse members, while esuring the audience is at the heart of their work.
Approach
We co-designed and facilitated the inaugural two day Network meeting with over 25 international delegates. Over a two day diagloue we shared dozens of individual ideas and lived experiences, and built consensus towards a new international standard for audience engagement. Capabilities deployed:
- Unlocking innovation
- Human-centred empathy
- Collborative engagement
Impact
The first ever produced guidelines provided a universal value statement and definition for audience engagement, to support museums to define and advocate audience-led planning. This included the priority focus areas on Inclusion and Engagement; and The Audience Experience. Following the success of the inaugral meeting of the IEA Network, the group continues to advocate for audience engagement and further expanded the guidelines in 2021.
