Trialling improved employment rights
The Brief
The Coronavirus Pandemic demonstrated first hand the precarious nature of insecure work, including casual and gig economy workers. The State Government of Victoria in Australia wanted to provide immediate support for these impacted workers, and at the same time evalute the social and economic impacts on the workforce, businesses, and the broader econony.
Approach
We led the end-to-end establishment, design, funding and implementation, management, and evaluation, and closure of the $247 million Sick Pay Guarantee pilot program, providing support to over 125,000 workers. Capabilities deployed:
- Complex Systems Thinking
- Unlocking Innovation
- Human-Centred Empathy
- Critical Thinking & Analysis
- Collaborate Engagement
Impact
This initiative provided a safety net for vulnerable workers, allowing them to take care of their health without facing financial hardship. We embedded a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, enabling processing over 1 million claims within an average 2 day turnaround, with 90%+ client satisfaction. At the same time developing an evidence base grounded in real world outcomes to support policy discussion at a broader level – demonstrating the power of government, community, and industry collaboration to create meaningful social change.
